1. Who we are
God Enchantment (godenchantment.com) is a blog written and published by Yvonne van Wyk in South Africa. In this policy "we", "us" and "our" mean God Enchantment and Yvonne van Wyk.
We are the responsible party for the personal information collected through this website, as defined in the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA).

2. What we collect, and why
We only collect what you choose to give us, plus basic visit statistics if you allow them.
When you send a message through the contact form. We receive your name, your email address and your message. We use them to read and answer you, and for nothing else.
When you leave a comment. We receive your name, your email address and your comment. Your name and comment may be shown under the post. Your email address is never shown publicly. We use it only if we need to reply to you about your comment.
When you join the newsletter. We receive your email address, and your name if you give it. We use it to send you the God Enchantment newsletter. Every newsletter has an unsubscribe link, and you can leave at any time.
When you browse the site. If you click "Accept all" on the cookie banner, Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity record how the site is used: which pages are visited, roughly where visitors are in the world, what device and browser they use, and how people move through a page. We use this to see which writing helps people and to fix things that do not work. If you click "Essential only", neither tool loads.
Comments from the previous site. Comments left on the previous version of God Enchantment were carried over to this site. Only the name and the comment were kept. Email addresses and IP addresses from those comments were not copied across.
We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
3. Cookies and similar technologies
The site stores one small item in your browser to remember your cookie choice, so the banner does not appear on every visit. This is essential and holds no personal information.
If you accept analytics, Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity set their own cookies. You can change your mind at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser, which brings the banner back. You can also block cookies in your browser settings, or install Google's opt-out tool at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout/.
4. Who else handles your information
We use a small number of trusted services to run the site. Each one handles your information only to do its job for us.

Some of these services store information outside South Africa. We use them because they apply protections comparable to POPIA, as section 72 of POPIA requires.
We will only share your information with anyone else if the law requires us to.
5. How long we keep it
- Contact form messages: as long as we need them to answer you, and no longer than two years.
- Comments: for as long as the post is online, unless you ask us to remove yours.
- Newsletter details: until you unsubscribe.
- Analytics data: Google Analytics keeps it for 14 months. Microsoft Clarity keeps it for 13 months.
6. Your rights
Under POPIA you may ask us to:
- tell you what personal information we hold about you
- correct it if it is wrong
- delete it, including any comment you have left on the site
- stop using it for the newsletter
Email yvonne@godenchantment.com and we will reply within 30 days. We will not charge you for this.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa: https://inforegulator.org.za, complaints.IR@inforegulator.org.za.
7. Keeping your information safe
Your information is sent to the site over an encrypted connection (HTTPS). Only the people who run God Enchantment can see contact messages, comment email addresses and newsletter details.
8. Children
God Enchantment is written for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has sent us their details, let us know and we will delete them.
9. Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your information, we will update this page and the date at the top.
