Eternal Forgiveness
As I woke up this morning, I became conscious of the Lord walking in my thoughts. As I greeted Him and gave thanks for the wonder of who He is and for a new day He turned my attention to the cross. As I looked at the cross, He shared the following with me and now I am sharing it with you.
As I looked at the cross, I became aware of the beginning of creation too. He showed me how He spoke creation into existence with His voice. As He breathed His words formed over His vocal cords giving voice to His creation. As His words proceeded out of His mouth creation formed and came into existence. Everything exist because of His voice and those same words that He spoke into creation in the beginning still uphold the universe today. (Hebrews 11:3)
Those words are the air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat, the things we see, hear, taste, touch, and smell. Everything we experience in creation, to the furthest reaches of space and time, exists because of His spoken words. The day He withdraws His word it will all collapse. He is the Creator of the heavens and the earth, and His voice is the atmosphere in which all living things have their existence.
Then He turned back to the cross and I beheld Him suspended there between heaven and earth. As I looked, I heard Him breathe and begin to speak. At that moment I became aware of the Creator of the universe, and He was about to speak into His creation again. I heard His voice, clear and clean, with focus and divine intent …
“Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” (Luke 23:34)
And with those words the Creator of the universe established the foundation for the coming of His New Creation. As he inhaled, He absorbed the work of sin and death into His body, and as He exhaled He released the work of the Spirit of Life and Forgiveness into His creation.
These astounding words, “Father, forgive them …” still fill the atmosphere and blanket the earth with His love, His mercy, and His forgiveness. The air we breathe speaks, “You are forgiven!” The water you drink declares, “You are forgiven!” All of creation proclaims, “You are forgiven!”
The God of the Universe says, “You are forgiven!”
And the Father answered Jesus’ prayer …
Either way, Christ’s love controls us. Since we believe that Christ died for all, we also believe that we have all died to our old life. He died for everyone so that those who receive his new life will no longer live for themselves. Instead, they will live for Christ, who died and was raised for them. So we have stopped evaluating others from a human point of view. (We ought only to know one another from an eternal, heavenly, reality) At one time we thought of Christ merely from a human point of view. How differently we know him now! (Now we know Him as He is in heaven) This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ. And God has given us this task of reconciling people to him. For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation. So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, “Come back to God!” For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God (forgiven) through Christ. (2 Cor 5:14-21 TPT)
Over and over Jesus demonstrated the forgiveness of God through His life and actions. He forgave and healed. He forgave and raised the dead. He taught, forgave, healed, and delivered. His life and actions demonstrated the fulness of the Father’s forgiveness towards all humanity when He hung on the cross and cried out …
“Father, forgive them!”
He loves you and has freed you from your sin by His own blood. Rejoice and be glad, because you have been made perfect and acceptable in the Father’s presence and He has removed your sin from Him and cast them away as far as the east is from the west.
Praise the Lord!
