Grace: Too Good NOT to Be True
Why Grace Is Hyper and Salvation Is Scandalous!
“It’s too good to be true.” We’ve all heard the phrase: Maybe you’ve even said it yourself.
But have you ever stopped to really think about what it implies?
It’s not just a cautious warning—it’s a deeply negative statement. It tells us that if something feels truly good, truly kind, truly generous… it can’t possibly be real. In other words, it must be a lie. A scam. A trap.
But what if that thought is the very reason so many people struggle to believe the gospel?
Because let’s be honest: the gospel is ridiculously, outrageously good.
What if the lie is in the doubt?
The idea that something “too good” must be false is one of the greatest tricks Satan has ever pulled. It creeps into our thinking like a fog, quietly whispering, “Don’t believe it—it can’t be real.”
And we fall for it. Without even realizing it, we start to believe that God’s love, His forgiveness, His grace—must have a catch.
But the gospel has no catch. It’s not a trick. It’s not a scam. It’s not just for “good people” or “holy people.” It’s for you. And it’s real.
Grace means that through the blood of Jesus—poured out to rescue you—God has already forgiven every single sin, fault, failure, and rebellion.
Yes, every one of them.
The ones before you believed.
The ones since you believed.
The ones you’re caught in right now.
And the ones you haven’t committed yet.
Nothing disqualifies you—except your unbelief.
It doesn’t matter whether others think your sins are “small” or “monstrous.” It doesn’t matter if you’ve lied, stolen, cheated, slept around, exploded in rage, been addicted, or drowned in fear. All of it—every last bit—is covered.
“The blood of Jesus… cleanses us from all sin” (1 John 1:7).
There is nothing you’ve done or could do that would put you beyond God’s forgiveness—if you believe and receive His gift of grace.
That’s what the blood of Jesus does: it removes the separation between you and God once and for all.
You’ll never be good enough. And that’s the point.
Here’s the best news of all: neither you nor anyone else will ever be good enough to earn salvation.
It doesn’t matter how kind you are.
It doesn’t matter how much you give away.
It doesn’t matter how well you raise your kids.
There is only one way to be saved: by trusting in God’s grace through Jesus Christ.
“It is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God” (Ephesians 2:8).
The same grace that saved you keeps you.
God’s grace didn’t just forgive you once and then leave you to earn the rest. The same grace that washed you clean at the beginning still keeps you clean now.
You can’t work your way into forgiveness by doing good deeds. You can’t balance out sin by “trying harder.”
Forgiveness is not a trade—it’s a gift.
It’s given because of Jesus, not because of you.
It’s maintained by His blood, not your behaviour.
It’s complete. Final. True.
But what if I sin again?
Let’s be honest—you already have. And you will again.
When was the last time you got irritated with someone?
Had a thought you’d be embarrassed to admit?
Watched something you shouldn’t have?
Or judged someone while excusing yourself?
You’re not perfect. None of us are.
And that’s exactly why we need a Saviour, not a scorecard.
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us… and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9).
Is forgiveness really unlimited?
Yes. Absolutely yes.
Some people struggle with that idea. They say, “So, you’re saying I can just keep sinning and be forgiven?”
Here’s the uncomfortable truth: Yes.
Because grace isn’t about how many times you fall. It’s about Who catches you every single time. It doesn’t mean there are no consequences for sin—but it does mean the forgiveness never runs out.
But what about big sins?
Depends who you’re asking.
From a human perspective, we grade sin. We label some actions “not so bad” and others “truly wicked.”
But from God’s perspective?
“Whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it” (James 2:10).
One sin makes you guilty of all sin. That means you don’t just need forgiveness for a few little things—you need a total rescue. So do I. So does everyone.
“All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).
But this makes the gospel so stunning:
“Yet through his powerful declaration of acquittal, God freely gives away his righteousness. His gift of love and favour now cascades over us, all because Jesus, the Anointed One, has liberated us from the guilt, punishment, and power of sin!” (Romans 3:24 TPT).
The gospel is for the guilty. And that means you qualify.
You don’t need to be perfect to have a relationship with God. You just need to believe in the One who is perfect. He already did everything that had to be done.
He didn’t wait for you to climb up. He came down.
He didn’t demand sacrifice. He became the sacrifice.
He didn’t write you off. He wrote your name in His book.
I once heard someone say, “If you fall into the mud, you don’t lie there and say, ‘I guess I was never clean to begin with.’ You get up, wash off—and remember what it feels like to be loved enough to be made clean again.” That’s grace. It doesn’t ignore the mud. It just never lets the mud define you.
So… is the gospel too good to be true?
Yes. It’s extremely good.
And yes—it’s completely, unshakably true.
God is that good.
His grace is that deep.
And His forgiveness is that final.
You’re not just barely saved.
You’re fully, forever, freely forgiven.
So the next time your heart whispers, “This is too good to be true,”
let your faith shout back:
“No. It’s too good not to be true.”
By grace alone. 🙌
