What does it mean to be “in the spirit?” And what is “the Lord’s day?” Are these special occasions reserved for those who are more spiritual than we are and is the Lord’s Day some future event that does not concern us now?
As I continue on this quest seeking understanding of the Book of Revelation let me share what is on my heart as to the ground rules. I sense the Lord telling me that these “revelations” are first and foremost HEAVENLY and in His realm these images and revelations are literal. In the realm of the spirit where God is NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE. However, I think that as they pass through the realm of the soul and onto the physical, they have sufficiently changed their appearance or manifestation so that from earth they are symbols, images or metaphors.
Jesus instructs us to be heavenly minded, to think on things above where He is seated at the right hand of the Father. This is also the place that He has elevated or raised you up too. Therefore, I think that understanding Revelation starts from the place that He revealed it from, which was in the realm of the spirit. I also believe that because God created us as spirit, soul, and body, that the Revelation He gives about Himself affects us spiritually, mentally and physically, and I believe that to fully understand the Book of Revelation we need to understand it in all three dimensions.
Also understand that I have never done this before so I am navigating this mystery with the Holy Spirit and should you not agree with me on something you are absolutely free to do so. This is simply my journey that I have invited you to share. My hope though is that it stirs you up to think beyond anything you have currently thought and to be happy while doing so. 😊
So, what is the Lord’s day? Is it physical? Yes. Is it spiritual? Yes. Is it mental? Yes.
It is an eternal day that has its origin in heaven, which comes down to a mental day (your life), called Today, and then into multiple physical days.
And this flow, from heaven (spirit), to your mind (soul), to your senses (body), I believe is the flow of the whole Book of Revelation. It is not some mystery or fearful coming event. It was, it is, and it is coming. It is the Revelation of the Lordship of Jesus, His union with His church and His victory over death, in the spirit, in the soul, and in the body. He is Lord in your spirit, He is unifying (marrying) you to Himself in your soul, which will ultimately deliver your glorious body from the realm of death to where you (spirit, soul and body) will forever be with the Lord.
1 Thessalonians 5:23 May God Himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul, and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus.
Spiritually the Lord’s day is an eternal day as it is not subject to time, space and matter. Jesus reveals Himself as the Beginning and the End, He knows the Beginning from the End, and calls things that are not manifest on earth as if they were manifest on earth. Therefore, the Beginning and the End of His Revelation of Himself to His CHURCH, is already finished. And it is this position, where everything is already finished, the He expects us to operate from.
Mentally is also an eternal position which God calls Today and represents our entire life as one day. (Heb 4:7) Because our thoughts, imagination and emotions, tend to be more connected to what we perceive through our senses, we have a hard time deciphering what Jesus, who is heavenly and spiritual, is talking about. As a result, we want to understand His Kingdom through the physical world around us instead of the spiritual realm where He is. It is in this realm the Jesus is “marrying” us to Himself, which is simply to unify our thoughts and emotions with His thoughts and emotions which are spiritual and from heaven where everything is already finished.
Physically, every day is the day of the Lord too. However, here on earth there are many “days and nights” that will culminate on the great “Day of the Lord” where we will once again see Him standing upon the earth. This day, however, will not happen until we have been fully united with the Lord in our (the Church) minds. Remember the flow – from the spirit (heaven) to the mind (soul) to the earth (body).
Next, how to go into the spirit …
