My Sister Wisdom

There is a strange Scripture, Proverbs 7:4, that says I am to call Wisdom my sister and Understanding my intimate friend! This is one of those strange and mysterious passages that, if you let it, will delight your soul in its search for the kingdom of heaven.

Have you ever thought about wisdom and why it, or she, is so highly prized before God? Wisdom is what got Solomon the immense favour of God to where he became the wealthiest man alive. James tells us that when we are in need of something from God to ask Him for wisdom. So much in Scripture is about finding wisdom and gaining understanding.

Now the question is, when we come to God to meet our needs do we come asking for wisdom and understanding or are we asking for our problem to be removed? Think about it. How many times do we ask for something and then don’t get what we want. Is it perhaps because we are asking amiss? What if we are asking God to “wave His magic wand” and He is wanting us to become acquainted with Wisdom and Understanding so that they can teach us about His ways? Is it possible that they hold the answers to many of our prayers?

Look at how The Message Bible talks about them:

You’re blessed when you meet Lady Wisdom, when you make friends with Madame Insight! She’s worth far more than money in the bank; her friendship is better than a big salary. Her value exceeds all the trappings of wealth; nothing you could wish for holds a candle to her. With one hand she gives long life, with the other she confers recognition (wealth and honour). Her manner is beautiful, her life wonderfully complete. She’s the very Tree of Life to those who embrace her. Hold her tight – and be blessed! (Prov. 3:13-18 MSG)

Talk to Wisdom as to a sister. Treat Insight as a companion. (Prov. 4:7 MSG)

My question is, how do you talk to someone as a sister and treat someone as a close friend unless they are “Beings” you can actually talk to? If wisdom and understanding are simply facts, truths, laws and regulations, how do you then talk to them, love them, embrace them? Is God messing with our minds here? Has religion messed them up so much that we only imagine four other Beings in heaven – the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit and the devil? If they are facts, then how do you interact with them? If they are heavenly Beings, then how well do you know them?

I hope I messed with your mind a little and encourage you to ask the Lord and seek the truth regarding Wisdom and Understanding as well as other heavenly beings.

And remember, you are allowed to have fun while you are seeking the Lord and His kingdom! 😊
