The angel overseeing the saints in Pergamum holds a powerful and beautiful revelation of the Lord. He reveals the Lord as the one who holds the sharp two-edged sword. What mystery do we have in this beautiful letter? 😊

Pergamum – The word of God and Repentance from dead works

The sword of the Lord is the WORD of GOD. Now, as I have said elsewhere, this is NOT the Bible, it is the VOICE of the LORD which is living and active on the inside of you. The WORD in you looks and sounds very different to ink on paper. Jesus Christ IS the Word of God!

For the Word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of Him to whom we must give an account. (Heb 4:12-13) (this joins with the angel of Smyrna)

In his letter to Pergamum Jesus reveals Satan, who is the accuser of the brethren, and repentance. Repentance forms part of Christ’s doctrine called “repentance from dead works.” (Heb 6)

This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live. (Deut 30:19)

The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit. (Pr 18:21)

Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of His Messiah. For the accuser of the brethren, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down. They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb, the word of their testimony and they loved not their lives so much as to shrink from death. (Rev 12:10-11)

Your accuser before the throne of God has been hurled down. He has been stripped of all power and authority, and none of his “your so guilty and should be so ashamed of yourself” accusations amount to a hill of beans before the Lord.

You overcome – please note YOU OVERCOME – him by the blood of the Lamb which is the Word of God that has declared and decreed you to be without sin, to be holy, faultless, and blameless in His presence.

The word of YOUR testimony is the Word of God that is living and active within you, which you have chosen to believe instead of the lies of the accuser, and

Loving your life not unto death is simply to lay all your thoughts, opinions, rights, etc., down and to take up the eternal judgements/decrees/thoughts and declarations of the Lord Jesus. These are His “eternal judgments” which He has declared concerning you.

The sharp two-edged sword of the Lord is the decree that you are eternally forgiven through the blood of Yeshua who has granted unto you eternal life because you believe in His Son. You are born of God and he that is born of God cannot sin (1 Jn 3:9)

This is what repentance from dead works is all about. Repentance is not about “not sinning” it is about not taking on the mind of the accuser and putting on the mind of Christ. Repentance is about shifting your thoughts and opinions of yourself into line with those of the eternal Son of God. Without understanding repentance from dead works you cannot come into the mindset that you need to rule and reign in this life.

I see the angel of Pergamum as the angel that oversees the revelation of the Lord’s doctrine of “repentance from dead works” and the Word of God.
