The Fear of The Lord

There are two kinds of fear spoken of in Scripture. The one is the fear that attacks you when adverse circumstances or situations confront you. (Read Fear Attack Blog) The other is called the fear of the Lord. In both cases they bring fear which cause trembling, shivers, shortness of breath, heart palpitations, etc. Both are felt and experienced in the mind and the body. Both have a cause and an effect in your life.

Fear that comes from Satan is an attack against you and its purpose is to bring you under its control. These attacks can make you physically ill and mentally tormented. They can be relentless and unless you are relentless back they will overcome you.

There is another fear, though, that is far more powerful than the fear attacks of this world, and that is the fear of God.

I have heard many people say that the fear of the Lord is respect, honour, and reverence, however, I believe these are the results or the fruit that comes from encountering the fear of the Lord.

The fear of the Lord is a very real and heart felt encounter with the Almighty God.

It also comes like an attack and takes hold of your mind and your body. These “fear of the Lord” encounters happen in deep intimacy with the Lord where His holiness and His greatness overwhelm you, physically and mentally.

When you encounter the fear of the Lord you do feel afraid, but it is not a fear of doom but of holiness. It is powerful and it is transforming. It releases a hate for sin and a love for righteousness. It intensifies your desire for God and a revolt against the things of this world. These are awesome, wonderful, glorious, real and living experiences in Christ.

My prayer is that as you seek the Lord’s face that He lead you into the fear of Him; into this place of deep intimacy where you come to know and understand that HE IS GOD.
