Thyatira 6
“For these are the Words of the Son of God, whose eyes blaze like fire and whose feet are like burnished brass.” Revelation 2:18
The Father, out of His great love and passion for us sent His Son to be our Redeemer. Just the knowledge of that is enough to shake the heavens and the earth. When you see the world shaking you should ask yourself about what revelation of Himself Jesus is sharing. Whatever it is, it is causing His church and the world to shake, and this current shaking is quite violent if you ask me! 😊
In the church of Thyatira, which is a picture of the church today, you have saints that were fully committed to the Lord and you had those who were still heavily involved in the things of the world. Jesus first reveals Himself as the passionate lover of His saints but also as the one who comes to correct and discipline His wayward sons and daughters. To those who obey and submit to His correction He promises great reward, power, and authority – in this life and in the age that is to come. Some were already in this place of obedience; some were in the process of letting go and others were still fooling around.
Where and what was the problem that Jesus had issue with? His discipline will come in the form of a plague (sounds like Coronavirus) but what would bring it about. This is going to be a bit of a tough time to write as it is not filled with “hallelujah, praise the Lord,” but rather, “Oh my God, have mercy on me.” We do have to undergo discipline if we want to sit with Him on His throne.
In His letter the Lord first addresses those who are faithful to their faith, their ministry, and their steadfast perseverance despite the worldliness around them. They were doing their job well. Their preaching was good, and they were fulfilling the great commission to heal the sick, raise the dead, cast out devils, pray in tongues and preach the good news of eternal life in Christ Jesus.
But in spite of all these great things these good saints were doing, Jesus had an issue with them. Gosh, really? Yes, and there is a great key here which will unlock more of the heavens and the Revelation of Jesus Christ, if we are willing to heed His voice and discipline. But more about that later.
The second group of saints that He was “hot under the collar” with were the ones fooling around with their enemy. They have this idea that God’s grace gives them the freedom of “anything goes, it’s okay, I have my eternal salvation secure!” Boy are they in for a shock! Yes, their eternal salvation may be secure because they are sons and daughters of God through faith in Jesus Christ, but Daddy does not take nonsense from His kids. If we think the Lord does not discipline those He loves, then we do not know Him.
Hebrews 12:5 – 17
And you have forgotten that word of encouragement that addresses you as sons: “My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline, and do not lose heart when He rebukes you, because the Lord disciplines those he loves, and He punishes (corrects) everyone he accepts as a son.”
Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as sons.
For what son is not disciplined by his father? If you are not disciplined (and everyone undergoes discipline), then you are illegitimate children and not true sons. Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of our spirits and live! Our fathers disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, that we may share in his holiness. No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it. Therefore, strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees. “Make level paths for your feet,” so that the lame may not be disabled, but rather healed. Make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. See to it that no one misses the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many. See that no one is sexually immoral, or is godless like Esau, who for a single meal sold his inheritance rights as the oldest son. Afterward, as you know, when he wanted to inherit this blessing, he was rejected. He could bring about no change of mind, though he sought the blessing with tears.
Right now, globally people are facing severe hardships and trials, others are not. But whatever is happening in your life, know this, your Father loves you and will discipline you in the areas of your life that are not yet submitted to Him. What we are all facing in the world today is the Lord calling His people out of darkness and into the knowledge of who He is as, “The one who is the Son of God and whose eyes blaze like fire and whose feet are like burnished bronze.”
I encourage you to read the Lord’s letter to Thyatira over the weekend and listen to what He is saying to you personally because it is His letter to you for this appointed time.
Have a thoughtful weekend.
Much love, 💕
