Thyatira 7

Tough times. Oh, how we dislike tough times yet here they are and sometimes, no matter how much you pray against them or rebuke them, they just don’t go away! Have you ever wondered why some prayers just don’t seem to get an answer even though you have cried out to God?

Dave shared an incident he had with the Father this morning. He was out walking and fellowshipping with the Lord when the Lord answered his question before he had even asked it. He was upset with the Lord because He had not warned him about some of the stock market trades he had done when he first started and he lost a lot of money. The Lord answered and told him it was necessary for Dave to go through the learning experience because it forced him to develop self-control and to develop the skill that is required as an investor. If the Lord had just given him all he wanted Dave would have ended up yielding to greed instead of wisdom and understanding. Wisdom and understanding were more important and valuable than the money he had lost.

It is the same with all of us. Sometimes in life God determines that the development of our character in righteousness is far more important than being rescued from the trouble we are facing. It is not that the Lord is not interested in what you are going through, He is, but He has more wisdom than you do and the secret is in learning to yield to Him and to praise Him even if nothing seems to be going right.

God’s purpose in trouble is to bring you into the knowledge and understanding of His kingdom, His ways, and His thoughts. You belong to Him and He has a plan and a purpose for you and your life which is higher than your circumstances. As He said, “The just shall live by faith.” God is determined to bring His children out from their bondage to the world and the lordship of Satan and that may mean there are some things you hold dear that are going to have to give way. (The children of Israel had to give up their garlic and herbs to follow God into the wilderness 😊).

Look at what Habakkuk says … (3:17-19 MSG)

Though the cherry trees don’t blossom, and the strawberries don’t ripen,

Though the apples are worm eaten and the wheat fields stunted,

Though the sheep pens are sheepless and the cattle barns empty,

I’m singing joyful praise to God. I’m turning cartwheels of joy to my Saviour God.

Counting in God’s rule to prevail, I take heart and gain strength.

I run like a deer. I feel like I’m king of the mountain!

My interpretation.

Though Coronavirus attacks my body and there is no money in the wallet. Though I have no food in the pantry nor salary in the bank account. Though the job has disappeared and there is no petrol in the car. Though my family forsake me, and my friends have no more need of me. Though my cell phone is dead, and the rent is not paid. If I find myself in the street with holes in my shoes, I will rejoice in the God of my salvation. Nothing in this world can compare to the wonderful gift of eternal life that He has given to me and that He calls me by my name. He will never forsake me neither will He turn His back on me, for the Lord is my helper, my refuge, and my fortress. I will sing and make merry in my heart and offer up to Him my songs of praise.

When eternity is the pursuit of your heart sin will no longer have any hold on you. The things of this world will become strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace.

You see, it’s when you learn to praise the Lord in the midst of your circumstance that you find the treasure and power of the kingdom. That’s when you find the greatest and most powerful weapon of all – love. And when our lives rest in the love of God for us we will love one another, and nothing will stop the kingdom of heaven from coming to earth in our lifetime and beyond.

Have a peaceful day.
