Nathaniel woke up one morning oblivious to the tremendous events that would transpire this day. He went about his normal chores and later in the day took time out to sit beneath his favorite tree. The last thing on his mind was the news that Philip blurted out as he ran towards him.

“We have found the Messiah!” he shouted. “He has come from Nazareth! Come, come and see him!”  But curiosity got the better of him and he went along to humour Philip. As he approached Jesus though, and there was nothing about Him that made Him stand out as the Messiah, there was a strange tingle and excitement that flooded his whole being.

Jesus looked up at Him, smiled and said, “I saw you sitting under the fig tree before Philip called you.” He saw me! Nathaniel was taken aback as he thought about what Jesus had just said. He saw me! How did He see me? How did He know? “Jesus, I believe you are the Messiah!” That’s all it took. Nathaniel believed. Jesus smiled and said, “You will see the heavens open and angels ascending and descending on the Son of Man!”

And just as Jesus saw Nathaniel sitting under that tree, He sees you! He sees you when you are behind your desk, or sitting in the lounge, or driving your car. He sees you, no matter where you are. And He smiles at you, for you fill His heart with joy. You are His delight and He has marvelous things that He wants to share with you. And all you need to do is respond like Nathaniel and say, “Lord I believe that you are the Messiah!”

Today I encourage you to go and sit somewhere, anywhere, and ask the Lord to come and sit with you for a while. Have a chat and ask Him to tell you something in His heart about you, to you. His thoughts of you are more in number than the stars in the heavens or the sand on the seashore. And His thoughts towards you are not about your “sins” but about His immense, wonderful, glorious, eternal plan and purpose that He has concerning you!
