Smyrna 4
The Lord woke me up this morning to have some fun with me. He took me to “the Beginning” and showed me what happened in the beginning. Little did I know that today’s blog would be about the One who is The Beginning.
In Revelation 1:4 John reveals Jesus as the One who is, who was, and who is to come. In verse 8 Jesus reveals Himself as the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the one who is, who was, and who is to come. In verse 11 He is again introduced as the Alpha and Omega, the First and the Last. In verse 17 He reveals Himself again as the First and the Last, the one who is alive forevermore.
I think the Lord is trying to get our attention!
He describes Himself as the Beginning, the Alpha, and The First. (We have a trinity or 3) Then He describes Himself as the Omega, the End, and the Last. Another trinity; there is more mystery here than meets the eye 😉) He is the One who WAS, who IS, and who is TO COME. All these words and phrases describe Jesus as the ETERNAL One – the eternal past, the eternal present, and the eternal future.
The word Alpha comes from the Hebrew word Aleph, which is the first letter and the first number, one in Hebrew, and is also associated with a sense of God’s oneness or union. There is a Hebrew word, aluph, which comes directly from the word Aleph, and means Master or Lord. There are many mysteries associated with the word Aleph, but I will leave you to go look for them yourself.
Another wonder I discovered, and question I got answered, came from the numerical meaning of the FIRST letter, Aleph. It is represented by both the number 1 and 1000, representing that which is both first and eternal. And how many times does the Lord use the word 1000 in Revelation and elsewhere in Scripture?
Check this out …
Deuteronomy 4:6 Hear O Israel, the LORD our God is one LORD.
LORD is spelled with the Hebrew letters YHWH. God is the word Elohim which means more than one, so there are at least two, and we know there are three. Therefore, we have Aleph + Bet (2nd letter) from which we get the word ALPHABET. (Greek alpha + beta). As soon as you have two or more letters you have words which when strung together become sentences, which become a language.
And our Lord and Master is called THE WORD OF GOD. He is the language or VOICE of creation!
Now, what about the FIRST commandment? What is it?
Mark 12:29 And Jesus answered him, “The first of all the commandments is, Hear O Israel, the Lord our God is one Lord: and you shall love …”
Honestly, I had NEVER picked that up before when I thought of the FIRST commandment. Jesus is saying that the FIRST commandment is to know who God is.
Remember, the Pharisees and Sadducees, did not have Jesus crucified because of the miracles He performed, but because He considered Himself to be God, or a part of the Godhead – YHWH. This was blasphemy to them and infuriated them. They understood that in the beginning God (YHWH) created the heavens and the earth.
To be continued …
Have a blessed day. 💖
