Thyatira 13
We have dealt (very briefly) with the teachings or doctrines of the Nicolaitans, Satan, Balaam, and now it is Jezebel’s turn. There are more but we will deal with them as they come up. Each of these are names Jesus uses to identify particular demonic principalities and their teachings. Please note that it is not the demonic entity that Jesus has a problem with. In and of themselves they have no power. Their power is gained through human beings (especially the church) accepting and adhering to their teachings or doctrines.
Jesus takes issue with His church and His discipline is severe because the works and powers of darkness increase through our engagement, acceptance, or tolerances of these demonic teachings.
Knowing Jesus Christ and His doctrines are our only weapon against the seductive, deceptive, and dangerous teachings of these demons. The war for this world is not a war of swords and spears but of words – doctrines and philosophies. For as long as we think and believe that the problems we face are because of our neighbour, our government, our colleagues, our family, our physical circumstances, etc., Satan will outwit and outsmart us. However, Satan’s kingdom is falling because the saints are arising in their knowledge of the Holy One and more and more of us are beginning to live holy, separated, and consecrated lives before our King.
The gates of hell cannot prevail against the saints who live a holy and consecrated life before the Lord.
So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in Him, rooted and built up in Him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ. For in Christ all the fulness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and you have been given fulness in Christ, who is the head over every power and authority. Colossians 2:6-10
Jezebel’s weapons against the saints are her doctrines. For you to recognise this demonic power waging war against you personally and the church at large you must be able to recognise her teaching. What is it that she teaches? Jesus does not hide her doctrine and openly declares that her teachings are that sexual immorality and idolatry are okay, permissible, and acceptable behaviour in the saints!
This demonic power is not afraid of the church and does not operate from outside her walls but from within. Her doctrines, shrouded and hidden within the doctrines of Christ, make her look spiritual and godly, thereby being able to deceive the children of God. This puts the Lord’s back up and arouses His jealousy over His children. In love He will give those teaching these doctrines in the church time to repent. He is patient and will continue to teach His doctrines of grace and truth, however, after a time He will act. Once He does the consequences are not pleasant. His discipline is experienced through times of hardship or suffering because of sin. There is a difference between being persecuted for righteousness and suffering because of sin.
Make no mistake, Jesus does not tolerate sexual immorality. Sexual immorality, whether in or outside of marriage, releases very powerful demonic strongholds over humanity and the church. Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil and He is determined to bring ALL demonic principalities and powers under His feet and He will accomplish this through His church – that is you and me! I think it would be good to get with the program as the church is currently undergoing His discipline for tolerating and not repenting of the sexual immorality that is taking place within her walls. As a result of His discipline upon the church the world will also come under His discipline.
There is no doctrine more powerful than the grace of God and His grace is extreme in its goodness, love, and mercy. Hyper grace is to low a term to use when it comes to His grace. His grace is hyper upon hyper upon hyper grace! His grace is the only thing that teaches you to say no to ungodliness and to overcome the false teachings of Jezebel who contradicts the teaching of Christ through introducing tolerance towards sin and the practice of sin into the message. As soon as you are tolerant towards sin you come under demonic influence and control.
Tolerate means to put up with, to allow to be or to be done without prohibition, hinderance or contradiction. It is true that many churches today, like Thyatira, do wonderful works for God but have also become tolerant towards sin because of the misunderstanding of God’s grace, but that does not make His hyper, extravagant grace any less powerful.
Jesus stands at the door of your heart and He knocks waiting to see if you will let Him in. Letting Christ in means to accept His teachings and to forsake anything that you know contradicts His message. Are you hearing His knock? Have you let Him in? Are you tolerant towards sexual immorality? These are the types of questions you need to deal with in your heart when you let Him in. But do not fear, He is loving and kind and He will teach you His grace so that you can overcome the enemy of your soul and attain the wonderful reward He has for those who overcome.
