Today I want to talk a little about angels. Jesus, in instructing John to write His letters, notice they are not John’s letters, they are Jesus’ personal letters to His church, tells Him to write to the angel of the church.
Who is this angel? Is it an actual angel or is it the pastor over the church? Is it both?
The word angel in its simplest meaning means messenger. An angel is a messenger that comes with a message from God. Evil angels, or “fallen angels” come with messages from Satan. An angel is a spiritual being that is real and living in another realm, or as Scripture says, a heavenly realm. It is simply a heavenly realm because it is part of the invisible realms that God has created.
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created: things in heaven or on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by Him and for Him. Col 1:15-16
Notice how God Himself is invisible to the natural world, but He is not invisible in His realm. God is spirit and as a spirit being, He is visible to all those who are in the invisible world. The invisible realm is not somewhere on a far-off planet in our solar system, it is within you – or it is visible inside you. your spirit and your soul are both invisible and they have the ability to see the things that go on in the spirit/heavenly realms. In these realms you will find God, angels, fallen angels, demons, human spirits, and any other spiritual entity out there. YOU do operate here, even if you are not conscious of what you are doing.
In these two realms, heaven and earth, which are the visible and invisible worlds, that Jesus created for His own plans and purposes, there are different positions of rulership. He created them for Himself. These are not demonic positions, they are heavenly positions that He has created for His church, for He is the firstborn of all creation. He also became like us so that He could be the firstborn among many brethren. (Rom 8:29)
Now step into Revelation 1:5-6
… and from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To Him who loves us and has freed us from our sins through His blood, and has made us to be a kingdom (kings) and priests to serve His God and Father – to Him be glory and power forever and ever, Amen!
And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with Him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus. (Eph 2:6)
The heavenly realms belong to Jesus Christ and He is the ruler there. The position of power and authority He has created in these realms belong to the church – you. You are a kingdom, a world, a realm, or a dimension, in God in which you are lord and king. And everyone, whether saved or not, is a kingdom where God has given them sovereign authority. This is why your choice is so important and powerful. It is in this kingdom realm that exists within you where you choose who is lord over you. Remember He is King over kings, and Lord over lords. Where do you think these kings and lords have their kingdoms? And why do you think Satan is so desperate to keep control over these kingdoms? Satan knows that once Jesus Christ is Lord over the kingdom within someone’s heart, he loses his position of power and the more people Jesus is Lord over, the smaller his realm becomes.
So, here is the deal. As a child of God you sit in a position of power and authority just under God. Under you are God’s angels, who you are not called to dominate! They work under the Lord and do His bidding not our whims. They are there to work with you and to minister to you as you learn about your Father’s kingdom and transform your own inner kingdom to be the same as His. Under all the hosts of heaven sit the satanic rulers and powers and under them sits ungodly humanity.
