Pergamum 27

Remember, there is great reward for you when you overcome the enemy of your soul, whose purpose in life is to lead you into sin and hold you captive as his prisoner. Please, don’t allow him to continue with his diabolical plans against your life.

Besides having issues with Balaam’s teachings on idolatry and sexual immorality, the saints in Pergamum also had issues with the teachings of the Nicolaitans. This was covered in the blogs on Ephesus, so I am not going to go through it here, except to say that the Lord hates it when someone other than He has any kind of “headship” over you. There is only ONE mediator between you and God and that is the man Jesus Christ!

After dealing with the sinful enemies confronting the saints in Pergamum, Jesus makes this wonderful statement:

Rev 2:16 So repent, then, or I will come quickly to war against them with the sword of My mouth.

Isn’t it interesting how Jesus relates His action to the revelation of His name to the saints as the One whose words pierce the hearts of men? He is still using the sword of His mouth, His forgiveness, to bring the saints into victory.

Listen to how Jesus introduced Himself to his followers …

Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. (Mt 11:29). Or, …

Walk with Me and work with me, watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting upon you. (MSG)

Jesus has not changed. When He deals with you, He will always be gentle and kind. He is not harsh and punishing, He is gentle and accepting. He has forgiven you and cleansed you from all your sin, once and for all. Now He takes you into His care and teaches you how to do things His way. Once His sword has separated you from your sin and He turns it on your enemy it becomes a whole different story. He has no mercy for Satan, his demons, or his doctrines.

The yoke of the Lord is His doctrine – the Revelation of who He is as your GOD, your Father, and your Saviour. That does not mean He does not get stern or firm with you, because sometimes you get stubborn and a little firmness is necessary to get your attention. 😊 Gentleness does not mean “anything goes.” He is still very decisive in His decisions and He calls you to turn towards Him and to submit yourself to Him and His ways. And if you don’t want to listen then He will allow hardship (which comes as a result of disobedience and sin) to get you to turn away from your wrong thinking!

The Lord will use His doctrines to go to war against the doctrines of demons that have taken up space in your brain! It is a war between His thoughts and your thoughts, His ways and your ways. I promise you His ways and His thoughts are so much higher and so much better!

And when your heart is open and you are listening to Him and following Him, He will lead you to His banqueting table and begin showing you the hidden manna – the hidden secrets of His eternal kingdom. This manna is not earthly, and you won’t find it down here on earth. He gives this manna to those who have overcome the teachings of idolatry, sexual immorality, and church hierarchy. This is a very sweet place. It is real, it is in heaven, and you can gain access to it now.

I cannot describe this place to you as it will look different to you. All I can tell you is that in this place Jesus reveals so much more about Himself and His kingdom to you. It lifts you high above the things of this world and fills you with a peace and joy that is indescribable. I dare you to overcome the worlds indoctrination’s concerning temporal things, to give up the sins that hold you back, and come on in.

It’s good up here! 🎉🎊
